V12. British Racing Green. Probably an auto though although I forgot to check.
Parked (like an asshat) on the pedestrian mall!
What model is this? XJs? I am getting rusty at my ancient Jaguar id's.

If it's a V12 in the US, it's an auto unless somebody did a swap. You could get the six cylinder with a stick, though I'm not sure if you ever could here.

Was up in Canada so probably auto I agree. But I would drive this. Until it broke down.

Yes, I believe it is.

So four full car lengths then. I think that's the record.

It's called an XJ-S. Or XJS (MKIII, from '91 but the one pictured looks like a MKII). The V12 always came with an automatic (3-speed!), even in Euroland. Maybe the MKI ('76-'81) was available with a manual and a V12, not sure about that.

You know what they say about Jags...got to have two one for the shop and one to drive.

A 3 speed auto? That's a bit of a disgrace...my Ford Tempo which was of similar vintage had the same.

My father used to have one of these, I've still got the cassette tape that they'd give you with the car. Here's a picture of it.

Cool! What was on the cassette?

The XJS near my house is V12 with a 6 speed, forgot to mention, and the owner mentioned it was 1 of 30-ish cars with such an option. Not sure if it was swapped or not.
Also, a friend of mine has a newer XJ as her daily. I only saw it once in person.

But did that Tempo come with 430 Nms of torque? Lots of premium cars of that era (it's developed in the early 70s) had 3-speeds: Rolls-Royce Corniche, Mercedes-Benz W116. But I agree: it's a disgrace. It was a GM Turbo-Hydramatic.

The Tempo had all of 169 NM torques.
I guess I was forgetting that this 1989 car was based on an older platform. Don't get me wrong I like the car, but it would be a bit better with more gears. It wasn't many years later that things like Corolla's and stuff started to come with 4 speed auto's.

I for one always wondered why lots of autotrans remained 4-speed into the late 90's, even Benzos, BMWs. The manuals back then were all 5-speeds ans some even 6. And then, a miracle occured... BMW doesn't have a less-than-8-speed-auto-rule, and even a 9-speed auto transmission isn't that uncommon.

The TH400 tranny in the Jag is actually pretty good...got the same setup in my XJ12. It's not quick between stop lights, but it's fast on the highway. I absolutely considered swapping a Tremec TKO into an XJS as a project, but $$$.

Cruiser rather than drag racer. Right on.

Yup. But you'll absolutely surprise the occasional 5.0 and Civic kids above 50mph. The V12 pulls like a freight train.
